I Found the Secret Robe of the Arcane Cheater in Avowed – Worth Every Coin!
Avowed Shatterscarp desert and Robe of the Arcane Cheater guide: uncover hidden treasure for powerful spellcasting upgrades.
Okay guys, I just spent way too much time in the Shatterscarp desert chasing rumors about the Robe of the Arcane Cheater, and let me tell you—it’s 100% worth it!! 🏜️✨
After grinding through Dawnshore and the Emerald Stairs, Avowed finally opens up this massive desert region called Shatterscarp. It’s all scorched sands and strange rock formations, and honestly I nearly missed this treasure completely because it hides behind a merchant I never would have visited normally. But once you get the robes… oh man, your spellcasting goes NUTS. Let me walk you through every single step so you don’t make the same detour mistakes I did.
🌵 Where to Actually Get the Treasure Map
Most treasure maps in Avowed are either scattered around the world or sold by traders in the main towns. When I got to Thirdborn (the big settlement in Shatterscarp), I naturally checked every merchant and found nothing. Rookie move—the map for the Robe of the Arcane Cheater is sold by a shady vendor hiding waaaay off the beaten path.
You need to head to the upper-middle section of the Shatterscarp map, specifically the other side of those rocky hills that hide Tago’s Tower. As you wander near a tiny cave nestled in the cliffs, you‘ll spot a lone trader marker. The dude literally just chills there, probably because nobody else would survive the heat. Here’s a peek at his exact location from my own save:

He sold me the map for 1,680 currency—pricey if you’ve been splurging on upgrades, but trust me, the payout is insane. After buying it, the map appears in your inventory and gives a hand-drawn clue that honestly looks like a completely different area. 🤡
🔎 Following the Misleading Clue
Now here’s where my brain short-circuited. The treasure map shows a desert plain with a tiny cave, so naturally I spent an hour combing the Great Sand Sea because, well, it’s the big desert zone. Big mistake. The real treasure sits patiently in a place called Ancient Lakebed.
Pull up your region map and look for the text “Ancient Lakebed.” Right below it you’ll see several scattered pools of water. Ignore the smaller ones—you want the largest pool on the left side. When you get there, you’ll also find one of the bounty targets and even a unique weapon lying nearby, so the trip is stacked with loot anyway. 😏
Stand on the western edge of this big pool, face east, and suddenly the view matches the sketch. I literally gasped. There’s a gentle slope on your left that you can shimmy up. Follow it to a rocky ledge you can jump onto, and there it is—a small cave entrance hidden in plain sight.
🧙♀️ The Reward: Robes of Surpassing Brilliance
Inside the cave you’ll find a chest containing the unique Robes of Surpassing Brilliance. And sweet lord, these aren’t just fancy rags. They come with two killer bonuses:
| Stat Boost | Effect |
|---|---|
| Increased Essence | Your mana pool skyrockets, letting you chain spells without chugging potions every 3 seconds |
| AoE Damage Boost | All your area-of-effect spells hit about 20% harder, making crowd control a breeze |
I’m running a full wizard build with storm and fire spells, and these robes instantly turned me into a walking apocalypse. Even hybrid builds that dip into grimoire magic benefit massively from the essence bump.
Pro tip: Combine this with the Arcane Veil ability and you basically become an untouchable magical turret. I decimated a tough bounty fight right after equipping them and didn’t even drop below half essence. 🔥🔥🔥
🗺️ Quick Summary for Lazy Adventurers
If you’re just here to nab the robes and dash, here’s the speedrun version:
-
Buy the map from the cave trader northwest of Tago’s Tower (1,680 coin)
-
Open your map and zoom into Ancient Lakebed
-
Go to the biggest body of water on the left
-
From the western shore, look east, then climb the slope to your left
-
Jump onto the ledge and enter the cave
-
Loot the Robes of Surpassing Brilliance!
This gear piece alone made my 2026 Avowed replay feel brand new. The chase was half the fun—getting lost in the desert, discovering a hidden merchant, and finally that “aha!” moment when the landscape matched the drawing. If you’re running any kind of magic build, do NOT skip this. Your essence bar will thank you every single fight. 💖
